Speakathon Club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar organized fourth edition of 'Aazadi Amrit Mahotsav Series' in form of "Online Elocution Contest" to commemorate the 75th year of India's independence. This week’s freedom fighter was Vinayak Damodar Savarkar popularly known as Swantrayveer Savarkar whose birth anniversary falls on 28th May. About 30 students of GJUST Campus, as well as other affiliated colleges participated in this event. The guest of honour of the event was Prof. Deepak Kedia, Chairperson, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. Pratap Singh Malik, Director, Training and Placement Cell presided over the function.
Prof. Deepak Kedia appealed to students to learn from our freedom
fighters as they were great thinkers with innovative ideas, they were the man
of their words and had extreme patience and perseverance and have taught us
that if we are self-determined to do something then nothing can stop us.
Participating students spoke very enthusiastically about the life,
struggles and sacrifices made by Savarkar for India’s independence,
lessons learnt by them and relevance of his thoughts in the current
context. The students highlighted that Savarkar was a great
poet, writer, speaker and freedom fighter. In his childhood, he started
participating in Freedom movement by burning holi of foreign goods. His
book "The Indian War of Independence" written in memory
of 1857 revolution was so motivating for freedom fighters, that it
was banned by the British government even before its publishing. Due to
his inspiration, Madan Lal Dhingra killed cruel Karzan Wayeli in London and was
finally sentenced to death. The students highlighted the atrocities he had
to bear when he was captivated in Cellular Jail of Port Blair. But in spite of
all these odds, he never lost patience and wrote poems even on walls of
cellular jail. He took a number of initiatives for eradicating the evil
practices of untouchability in Ratnagiri.
