July 22, 2021
Speakathon Club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organised the eleventh edition of ‘Azadi Amritmahotsav Series’ in form of “Online Elocution Event” to commemorate the 75 years of India’s independence. This week’s freedom fighters were ‘Chandra Shekhar Azad’ and ‘Bal Gangadhar Tilak’ as their birth anniversaries fall on 23rd July. About 14 students of the University as well as affiliated colleges participated in this event. Prof. Ravish Garg, Professor of Biomedical Engineering was the Chief Guest of the programme.
Students spoke very enthusiastically and confidently about the life, struggles and sacrifices of ‘Chandra Shekhar Azad’ and ‘Bal Gangadhar Tilak’. They told that ‘Chandra Shekhar Azad' is one of India’s most prominent freedom fighters who chose to take a bullet to his head with his own hands rather than be taken captive by British colonialists. He faced off with the British police force at Azad Park in Prayagraj, Allahabad when he chose to die as a free man rather than live a captive in British imprisonment. He was just 24 years old at the time. Chandra Shekhar Azad was most well-known for the Kakori Train Robbery of 1925 where he attempted to shake the British imperialists in 1926. At the age of 14, Azad joined the Mahatma Gandhi-led Non-co-operation Movement of 1920. This happened in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919 which was one of the events that instilled Azad with a hatred for the colonialists and a dream for free India.
About ‘Bal Gangadhar Tilak’ they said that he was a teacher, advocate, journalist, scholar, mathematician, philosopher and a reformer, who helped lay the foundation for India’s independence by building his own defiance of British rule into a national movement. Being the first and foremost leader of the Indian Independence Movement, Bal Gangadhar Tilak became popular as the ‘Father of Swaraj’. Lokmanya Tilak's slogan 'Swaraj is my birth right and I shall have it' caught the imagination of a country fighting to free itself from colonial rule. Bal Gangadhar Tilak tirelessly contributed to help the country break free from the British rule. Part of the Lal-Bal-Pal (Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal) troika, Bal Gangadhar Tilak was called 'father of the Indian unrest" by British colonial rulers.
Prof. Ravish Garg delivered an expression of thanks and appreciated all the participants. He mentioned that while elocuting, there are some important things that matter the most and those are speaker’s body language, confidence, eye contact and content. He also told students that we should always follow our culture, tradition and religion and should be proud of our freedom fighters who gave us Independent India. At last he said that Bhupesh, Himani and Akash have been declared as the best three speakers of the event.
Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Assistant Professor of Physics Department and mentor of this series also encouraged the participants to give their best.
Dr. Aditya Vir Singh, Assistant Director of Training and Placement Cell appreciated the students for their good and satisfactory performance and told about the new concept that in every event there will be a quiz competition for the audience related to the life of given freedom fighters and the winner will be awarded with a certificate.
Unnati Kshetriya, the coordinator of Speakathon club, expressed gratitude and presented a vote of thanks. She also announced Nitya Chugh as the winner of the quiz. Pranjali anchored the programme very nicely.
