SSB CLUB (Inaugural Online Webinar) opportunities in Armed Forces and preparing them accordingly

             For making the students of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar (GJUST) aware about opportunities in Armed Forces and preparing them accordingly, Service Selections Board (SSB) Club has been started under the mentorship of Training & Placement Cell of the University.  The inauguration webinar of this club was conducted in the graceful presence of Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice- Chancellor as Chief Guest and Colonerl Jal Singh Bhatotia as Keynote Speaker. Col. Jal Singh has joined Indian Army in 1990 through CDS as commissioned officer. Col. Jal Singh has been serving the Army since last 31 years and after fulfilling a number of important assignments.  He is currently posted in Srinagar. The programme was presided over by Partap Singh, Director Placement.  70 students of various departments aspiring for SSB participated in the online event.

          While addressing the students Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor told that the Armed forces have been a great choice of young aspirants, especially of Haryana. Every aspirant dreaming of getting sanctioned as Defense Officer has to clear the SSB process. He appealed to all the members of SSB club to take full advantage of all activities scheduled to be conducted by the club in future. He further said that preparation of SSB is not a short duration process. One has to work extensively on his or her personality to inculcate the required traits.

          Col. Jal Singh Bhatotia made the students aware about Officer Like Qualities which are looked or assessed by SSB assessors. He told that candidates having Fifteen Officer Like qualities like Effective Intelligence, Reasoning Ability, Power of Expression, Self Confidence, Determination, Organizing Ability, Initiative, Courage,  Cooperation, Sense of Responsibility, Stamina, Group Influencing Ability, Liveliness, Social Adaptability, Speed of Decision are looked for in SSB. He also clarified that SSBs are meant for finding the Right Match instead of Best Match for serving as Defense Officer. One doesn't have competition with anyone else in SSB, but with self only. He told that these Personality Traits should be reflected Mansa Vacha & Karmana i.e. mentally, verbally as well as in actions.  He further shared that the SSB Interview Procedure is a five days process comprising two stages. First stage consists of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests & Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT). Second Stage consists of psychological tests such as Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) or Picture Story writing Test, Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) & Self Description Test (SD); Group Tasks such as Group Discussion, Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise), Progressive Group Tasks (PGT), Half Group Tasks, Individual Obstacles, Group Obstacles Race, Command Task, Lecturette & Final Group Task, Interview & Conference. 

          Director Placement told that various webinars will be conducted on every Saturday by SSB club in near future for inculcating these officer like qualities in club members and providing them an effective platform & guidance for preparation for armed forces.  Samrjeet Singh of B.Tech 4th Year, Club Coordinator discussed various entry mechanisms for armed forces like NDA, CDS, AFCAT etc. and scheduled activities of SSB club to be carried out in future. Vaishali, Club Coordinator anchored the event. Sanju, Club Co-coordinator presented a vote of thanks.
