Nineteenth Edition of Aazadi Amritmahotsav Series held by Speakathon Club of GJUS&T
The Speakathon Club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organized the 19th episode of ‘Azadi Amritmahotsav Series’ in form of “Online Elocution Competition" to commemorate the 75th Year of India's independence. Prof Vinod Kumar Bishnoi, Proctor of university was the chief guest of the function. Director(Placement) Partap Singh presided over the function. Dr. Mahavir from Chemistry Department & Dr. Geetu Dhawan from Hindi Department were the judges of the elocution contest. Total 22 students enthusiastically participated in the event. The contestants paid homage and spoke on freedom fighters having their birth or martyrdom anniversary in January month.
While paying tribute, the students spoke on Pandya Naresh Kattboman who was an 18th-century Tamil Palayakarrar and chieftain in Tamil Nadu, India, who refused to accept the sovereignty of the British East India Company and waged a war against them. The students also spoke on the life of Savitribai Phule who is the country's first woman teacher and also the first woman to become a headmistress. The students highlighted the life of Mahadev Govind Ranade who has been called the father of Indian economics for urging the British government to initiate industrialization and state welfare programs. Some of the participants spoke on Thakur Roshan Singh,an Indian revolutionary who was sentenced to death along with Ram Raprasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ulla Khan etc for involvement in Kakori Train Action, which took place on 9th Aug 1925. One participant spoke on a rarely known freedom fighter Ajijan Bai who helped in gathering information about the Britishers and passed it on to the freedom fighters during the 1857 revolution. The participants also highlighted the life of unsung hero Sardar Sewa Singh who was a leader of the Praja Mandal movement in Patiala and actively took part in the Freedom movement. Many students chose to speak about Rani Gaidinliu 'daughter of the hills' who spent 14 years in jail for India's independence. Students also spoke about Swami Vivekananda who is an influential personality, credited with enlightening the western world about Hinduism. Students also threw light on the life of Sant Ram Singh Kuka, who led Kooka Movement in the 1870s against the British Empire and also worked for Cow protection and gave sacrifice along with other Kookas.
In his Welcome address, Sh. Pratap Singh Malik, Director of Placement cell warmly welcomed the Chief guest, Judges and all the students and participants to the Nineteenth elocution contest of AAS. He stated that Azadi Amritmahotsav series was initiated in May 2021 on the birth anniversary of Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai and the event will be continued till 15th August 2022. He also mentioned that the motive of this event is to educate the youth about unsung heroes who have laid their lives for the freedom of our country, to give a platform to the students to enhance their communication skills and to give them confidence to speak in public. He pointed out that these kinds of events inculcate the spirit of patriotism in students which motivates them to contribute to the nation.
While addressing the students as Chief Guest, Prof. Vinod Kumar Bishnoi congratulated the students for participating in such a wonderful event. He said that it is the need of the hour to remember all those freedom fighters who sacrificed their family, career and everything, and never expected anything. He said that it becomes our foremost duty to recall allo such great men and walk on the path shown by them.
Judge Dr. Geetu Dhawan & Dr. Mahavir advised students to work upon their body language, content quality and time-management for better performance and suggested that content should be crisp, upto point and timely delivered. Dr. Ranjeet Dalal, Activity Mentor presented the vote of thanks and informed that Monika Sihag got first, Anshul got second and Manik got third position in this competition. Activity Coordinators Pratibha & Raghav along with other volunteers Rakhi, Anamika, Vanshmani, Vandana coordinated the event effectively. Parkash Jha anchored the event.
