21st Edition of Aazadi Amritmahotsav Series organized by Speakathon Club of GJUST

          The Speakathon Club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organised the 21st episode of ‘Azadi Amritmahotsav Series’ (AAS) in form of “Online Elocution Competition" to commemorate the 75th Year of India's independence. Dr Rajesh Lochab, Dean Alumni Relations was the chief guest of the event. Dr. Sunil Kaushik, Assistant Professor from CSE Department and Dr. Sunaina Grover, Assistant Professor from English Department were the judges of elocution contest. All students enthusiastically participated in the event.

          The students highlighted the life of Shivram Hari Rajguru who was an Indian revolutionary from Maharashtra known mainly for his involvement in the assassination of a British police officer named John Saunders. He was an active member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) and on 23rd March 1931, he was hanged by the British government along with his associates Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar. The students also spoke on the life Gopi Mohaan Shah or Gopinath Shah who was a Bengali activist for Indian Independence and member of the Indian Independence Movement. On 12th January 1924, he attempted to assassinate Charles Tegart, a leader in the fight against revolutionary movements and then head of the Detective Department of Calcutta Police. Saha was arrested and on 1st March 1924, hanged in Alipore Central jail. 

          Some students spoke about Anvantibai Lodhi, who was a queen of Ramgarh State in central India. She is remembered for her vigilant fight against the british during the 1857 War of Independence.  While paying the tribute, the students also spoke on Sukhdev Thapar was an Indian revolutionary who worked to make India Independent from the British Raj along with his best friends and partners Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru. A senior member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, he participated in several actions alongside Singh and Rajguru, and was hanged by the British government on 23rd March 1931 at the age of 23 years.          Students also spoke on the life of other great freedom fighter Usha Mehta, Suryasen, Sushila Didi, Charu Chandra Bose, Khan Bahadur Khan and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi. Previous AAS winners shared their experience of participation in this event.

          While addressing the students as Chief Guest, Dr. Rajesh Lochab congratulated Training & Placement Cell for doing such a wonderful job. He said we should all remember the sacrifice of freedom fighters who struggled for freedom. He reminded us that our constitution has mentioned some duties for every citizen of India. But now-a-days we have forgotten our duties. We must remember and keep them in mind to grow and strengthen the country. He also said that every citizen has to work in harmony.  This is the only way to strengthen our society. He also mentioned that our honorable Prime Minister Narender Modi has given us direction through different schemes like Atmanirbhar Bharat, Sawatch Bharat Abhiyan and Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas which provides a new path for the development of India. He mentioned the role of these activities in the development of our subconscious mind and appealed to be such a person who is dedicated to society and country by remembering the martyrdom of freedom. 

          Judge Dr. Sunil Kaushik motivated students that nothing is more important than the power of words. He appreciated all the participants for giving wonderful speeches. He said that everyone should remember freedom fighters who sacrifice to win the land of India.

          Judge Dr. Sunaina Grover said that it is a great opportunity for all to pay gratitude to unsung heroes. Due to the nectar of freedom the youth of India remember the struggle of freedom fighters. This type of platform gives a chance to all to remember the traditional culture of our country. She motivated students that they should keep working for the welfare of every person. She congratulated everyone for doing a beautiful task and appreciated it.

          In his Welcome address, Dr. Aditya Veer Singh, Assistant Director of Training and Placement Cell, he stated that this Aazadi Amrit Mahotsav Series was started on 12th May 2021 and will continue till 15th August 2022. This series is started for providing a platform to the students for enhancing their communication skills and to boost their confidence level. He said students came to know about unsung heroes who laid down their life for India's freedom and this series also provide a bench to students to overcome their hesitation to speak in the crowd. He informed that Manik got first, Monika got second and Mehak got the third position in this competition.

          Dr. Ranjeet, the Activity Teacher Coordinator, presented a vote of thanks. He said it is a great pleasure to organize such an event. He congratulated all the participants for their wonderful speeches. He said that this event inculcates a sense of patriotism in today's youth. He presented his sincere thanks to the chief guest and judges for sparing their precious time to be part of this event.

          Activity Coordinators Pratibha & Raghav along with Club Coordinators Apoorva & Shubham and other team members coordinated the event effectively. Garima from the Department of Chemistry nicely anchored the event.
