Industry Interaction Program held on "Career
Opportunities in the field of Economics"

Industry Interaction Club in mentorship of Training & Placement Cell of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organized an Industry Interaction Programme on the topic "Career Opportunities in the field of Economics" for the students of Department of Economics. Mr. Prem Kumar, expert in Econometric modelling, having served in Moody's as Chief Economic Advisor and in Ernst and Young at London & Sidney as Senior Member and currently serving in Company Dun Bradstreet as Senior Economist was the guest speaker of the session. Dr. Aditya Vir Singh, Assistant Director presided over the function.Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Avnesh Verma, Registrar congratulated the Training & Placement Cell for conducting such programmes to connect the students with the corporate world.
Mr. Prem Kumar, Keynote speaker shared his life
journey, his personal and professional attributes through presentation. He
briefed the students about two types of Economics - old Economics and new
Economics. He clarified that old
economics is about textbooks and theories and new economics is about data
science, where the economists have to apply the theories of economics using
statistical tools, mathematical modelling, econometrics and data science and
machine learning. He said that learning data science and machine learning
is equally important for students of Social Science, such as Economics
students. He suggested the students learn coding with Python or R for data
Analysis and forecasting. He also shared that Economics students are demanded
at every place because when India wakes up Europe sleeps and when Europe
sleeps, the USA wakes so, the job of an economist is not a 9.00 to 5.00 job,
but it's a 24 hours job. He underlined that economics students are hired in big
think tanks like NITI Aayog, RBI, World Bank, IMF, European Union and many
other research institutions and also demanded at rating agencies like Moody's,
Standard and Poor, CRISIL. Even various financial institutions hire economics
students. He also suggested students to start writing research papers,
attending conferences and write suggestions to the PM of India on economic
problems.
Mr. Partap Singh Malik, Director, Training& Placement Cell appealed to all the students to make use of such programmes regularly. Approximately 80 students participated in this virtual programme.Dr. Aditya Vir Singh, Assistant Director in his welcome address shared that Industry Interaction Club is consistently conducting seminars and webinars for making the students aware about Industry trends and practices.In the end, the students asked questions related to Agriculture, status of Indian economy, Effect of Russia-Ukraine war on world economics etc.The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Kiran, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. The student coordinators Mayuri, Vishwas, Tanu, Sonia, Diksha, Aayushi, Arzoo and IIP club coordinator Vishal coordinated the event very well. Arzoo Dhaka, student of B.Sc. Hons. Economics hosted the event.
