English Debate Competition organised by speakathon Club of T&P Cell

The Speakathon Club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organised the English Debate competition on the topic ‘103rd Amendment for 10 per cent Reservation for EWS category’. While congratulating the students for their participation, Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor stated that such activities are very instrumental in removing the hesitation of public speaking and students should participate in more numbers in these activities. Prof. Avnesh Verma, Registrar patted the efforts of Sepeakthon Club for arranging various programmes for enhancing communication skills of students.
Prof. Dalbir Singh, Dean Alumni Relations graced the event as chief guest. Dr. Astha, Assistant Professor from the English Department and Neeraj Verma, Assistant Professor from Directorate of Distance Education were present in the event as judges. Pratap Singh, Director of Training and Placement Cell presided over the function. Twenty seven students of different departments put their views in favour or against the given topic of debate.
In his address as chief guest, Prof. Dalbir Singh underlined that communication skills play a vital role in every area of life and therefore students should give up hesitation and come forward to participate in such activities. He also shared that debate is an art and participants need to work minutely to master this art.
While participating in the competition, students speaking in favour of the topic argued that this reservation was necessary and most-awaited for the economically marginalized section of society to ensure equal rights as per constitution. They argued that this 10 per cent reservation is not going to affect already present reservation. Students speaking against the topic argued that this is the time to reform the reservation and not to provide another reservation. They further said that such reservations will cause more division amongst society. Some argued that exceeding the 50 per cent limit of reservation is against the intent of constitution also.
Dr. Astha & Dr Neeraj, judges congratulated the students for performance and also shared some tips to present the point of view in a more effective manner. Dr. Aditya Vir Singh, Assistant Director, Training & Placement Cell announced the results. Bhawna Mittal from Haryana School of Business got the first prize while Lalit from ECE Department got the second and Yogita Yadav from Chemistry Department was third.
Barkha, Programme Coordinator presented a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries for gracing the event with their presence. Riya of the Economics department anchored the programme. The Speakathon club team including Deepak, Laxmi, Sujal, Lalit and Deepanshu under the leadership of Parkash Kumar Jha and Barkha managed the whole event.
