Bilingual Debate Competition held by Speakathon Club of T&P Cell of GJUST

The Speakathon Club of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organised a Bilingual Debate competition for University students on the topic "Has Technology been instrumental in increasing the crimes instead of controlling them". Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor of the University appreciated the continuous efforts of Speakathon Club for providing platforms to students for improvement of communication skills. He appealed to students to ensure maximum participation in these programmes.
Dr. Vinod Kumar was present as Chief Guest of the programme. The panel of judges consisted of Dr. Rajesh Thakur from department of Bio & Nano Technology and Dr. Navneedhi from department of Food Technology. Partap Singh, Director Placement presided over the event.
Addressing the students, Dr. Vinod Kumar mentioned that increasing technology has impacted the youth a lot and now it is upto youth to make best use of this technology for a better society. He also underlined the essence of verifying the digital information coming on various media platforms before grasping or forwearding it.
The students speaking in favour of the motion discussed cyber crimes and cyber bullying, which have come into the place due to advancement in technology. They also highlighted the increased chances of getting scammed even sitting in your home. Some of them also discussed identity theft where using the credentials from our digital account, criminals create a fake identity and use it to commit crimes. Financial frauds are increasing day by day due to increased technology. The students speaking against the motion argued that advanced technology has made the world a much safer place. They highlighted that high security systems and 24×7 surveillance systems have been a great way not only to stops crimes like robbery and kidnapping but also in catching the criminals. They stated that with the advanced artificial intelligence, face recognition has helped finding lost children and with the 3D sensing technology, we can now replicate the real crime scene giving us an extra edge to solve the cases like never before. Also with social media being in reach of every one, it's easier than ever to report a crime and get the solution.
After the debate, all judges congratulated the participants for taking part in this contest. They shared their experiences and suggested the participants to work more on the content part and counter the arguments of the other side.
Speaking in his welcome address, Partap Singh, Director Placement underlined the importance of debate competition to remove stage fear as well as to enhance logical reasoning and critical thinking. Total 24 students in 12 teams participated in the event.
Dr. Aditya Vir Singh, Assistant Director declared the results and stated that team of Hardik from B.Tech. IT and Lalit from B. Tech. ECE got 1st position, team of Sonu and Preeti both from B.Sc. Economics got 2nd prize while team of Khushi Sujlana and Yogita Yadav from B.Sc. Chemistry bagged 3rd prize.
Isha, Joint Coordinator, Speakathon Club presented the vote of thanks. The whole event was anchored by Deepak. Isha managed the whole event brilliantly along with the whole speakathon team including Deepak, Club Coordinator, Amit, Joint Coordinator as well as Sujal Pruthi, Laxmi and Lalit.
